The Lines in Marble

Suppose our behaviour is a block of marble: the latter matter which conceals a secret David or Donna deep within. The sculptor’s art is to remove the extraneous fragments so that the figure might stand forth in all its essential majesty.

In analogue, our mandate is to remove what is superfluous in our behavior—unnecessary activity of mind or body—
so that we are left with the pure & native grace at we all contain.
Be it by chisel, elbow, somatic investigation, imagery, etc....
We find many tools at our disposal, to be wielded by our aspiration (Rolfing® Structural Integration being one of the best).

I saw an angel in the marble & I carved until I set him free…Beauty is the purgation of superfluities.

—Michelangelo Buonarroti
